Project title:

Improvement in the assessment of risk posed to aquatic ecosystems from pesticide mixtures.

Project description:

This PhD project aims to enhance pesticide risk assessment for aquatic ecosystems by expanding chemical coverage to better reflect diverse land uses. It will examine the temporal variation of pesticide mixtures, organism recovery rates, and optimal risk reporting windows. The research will also refine methods for handling missing data and develop a predictive model for spatial pesticide toxicity. By applying a revised Pesticide Risk Metric (PRM) to case studies, the project will modernize risk assessment methodologies, ensuring their relevance to contemporary data and improving global adaptability within environmental risk management frameworks.

Funding:

This project was jointly funded and supported by the Water Quality and Investigations unit from the Queensland Government Department of Tourism, Environment, Science, and Innovation (DETSI), and the Reef Catchments Science Partnership (RCSP) at the University of Queensland.
