Project title:

Microbial diversity and function along a pH gradient

Project description:

This project will characterise soil microbial diversity and function along a globally renowned long-term pH gradient (pH 4-8) established in 1868 at Rothamsted, UK. Using a metagenomic approach, the frequency and diversity of genes associated with key ecosystem services (e.g. biogeochemical cycling, greenhouse gas fluxes, remediation of pollutants, etc…) will be linked with shifts in community composition, to better understand the functional consequences of biodiversity loss and change.
