Project title:

The influence of changing fire regimes on fire-dependent plant-animal interactions

Project description:

Felicity is researching the influence of changing fire regimes on the feed trees of Glossy Black-Cockatoos (GBC), mature she-oak trees (Allocasuarina and Casuarina). She-oaks display a range of post-fire reproductive strategies, including obligate seeding from serotinous cones and resprouting. Different she-oak species therefore respond differently to fire regimes, ultimately influencing GBC, which can potentially limit food resources for GBC. Felicity is researching the influence of changing fire regimes on post-fire recruitment, germination and genetic structuring of GBC feed trees. Ultimately, Felicity aims to provide new knowledge on optimal fire management regimes and strategies for restoration of GBC feed trees.
