Project title:

Synthetic Reference Data to Improve Canopy Structure Retrievals from Multi-platform LiDAR

Project description:

As part of a joint project with UQ, TERN and CSIRO I have been collecting terrestrial LiDAR and spectral measurements at all core Terrestrial Research Ecosystem Network research plots across Australia. For my PhD research, these data are being used to create high fidelity digital twins for next generation 3D radiative transfer simulations. These simulations allow for the calibration and validation of earth observation technologies in a flexible digital environment. I am focusing on the development and validation of LiDAR based canopy metric retrieval algorithms using a combination of these simulations and real reference data.
