Project title:

How and why are waterbird communities changing globally?

Project description:

Global biodiversity is in crisis, and we need a better understanding of the changes for effective conservation. However, most global biodiversity indicators lack an understanding of community changes. To address the issue, I will use the waterbird time-series data collected at over 40,000 wetland sites to assess the temporal changes in species abundance distribution (SAD), functional diversity (FD) and phylogenetic diversity (PD). I will also assess why understanding community changes is important by comparing global patterns in species abundance changes and community changes, and develop the best practice guidelines for analysing long-term waterbird monitoring data.
