Is climate change affecting Queensland’s climate?
Theme: Geography
Description: The world’s climate is changing rapidly, with many recent extreme events such as floods and fires attributed to climate change. However, it is unclear how much climate change has impacted on Queensland’s climate. This project will use observational data from weather stations, as well as gridded products from the Bureau of Meteorology, to look at south-east Queensland’s climate over the last 50 – 100 years to determine how much mean and extreme climate has changed.
Additional Information: This is an opportunity to do a joint research project between UQ and the Climate Projections & Services team at the Queensland Department of Energy and Climate. The student should have a background in geography/climate science/physics or maths and should have some knowledge of coding or a willingness to learn.
