Investigating the Molecular Evolution of Gene Candidates Involved in Cold Tolerance in Anopheles Mosquitoes
Theme: Ecology genetics and evolution
Description: This project will use whole genome data to identify genes and genomic regions which may be associated with cold tolerance in Anopheles mosquitoes. Population level data is already available for Anopheles hinesorum and Anopheles oreios from the central highlands of Papua New Guinea, as well as closely related lowland populations. Whole genome scans will be used on this data to identify candidate genes and genomic regions.
Additional Information: Students with a strong statistical background and/or experience in bioinformatics are encouraged to apply. A good understanding of evolutionary biology is also desirable.
