Subsurface rock reactions in geological energy storage
Theme: Earth science and resources
Description: Subsurface geological storage technologies will be needed for the transition to net zero emissions. These can include compressed air renewable energy storage and thermal energy storage, that could induce fluid-rock (mineral) reactions underground impacting the storage integrity or groundwater quality/environment. This project will investigate geochemical water-rock reactions and water quality and rock changes via experiments and rock characterization..
Additional Information: This will suit a student from geology, chemical engineering or similar backgrounds with knowledge in geochemistry, mineralogy or experimental processes.
