Environmental impacts of oil and gas shale extraction

Description: 

To understand the potential environmental impacts of oil and gas extraction from shale formations, more data is needed in Australia. This project will link shale mineralogy and rock properties to the potential environmental impacts such as metal mobilisation to groundwater to improve understanding. This will involve shale - water or shale -synthetic fluid experimental reactions, water metal and isotope analyses, and shale rock characterisation.

Additional Information: 

This will suit a student from geology, chemical engineering or similar backgrounds with knowledge in geochemistry, mineralogy or experimental processes.
