Carbon geological storage CO2 - water-rock reactions
Theme: Earth science and resources
Description:
Storage of CO2 in reservoirs underground is one of the technologies to reduce global warming. One aspect vital to the safety of the process is understanding CO2 water rock reactions and how they could change the reservoir or seals that contain the CO2. This project would involve rock characterisation (e.g. scanning electron microscopy), experimental reactions, and water geochemical analyses.
Additional Information:
This will suit a student from geology, chemical engineering or similar backgrounds with knowledge in geochemistry, mineralogy or experimental processes.
