Project title:
Patterns and drivers of marine ecological novelty through time and space
Project description:
In our changing world, ecological communities are being pushed towards unprecedented, “novel” states. My work focuses on detecting, assessing, and interpreting these novel states within valuable yet vulnerable marine ecosystems. I look at the heat-stressed corals on our coasts and the shifting plankton in our oceans to evaluate ecological novelty on historical to contemporary time scales, and over single-reef to whole-ocean spatial scales.
