Project title:

Understanding and enhancing the adaptive capacity of market vendors in the Pacific: Experiences and lessons from Vanuatu

Project description:

This research project will provide a practical example of what is enabling (or limiting) adaptive capacity for female market vendors in Vanuatu. Adaptive capacity has gained recognition in the literature as critical in order to understand how best to support vulnerable livelihoods, particularly against the existential threat of climate change. However, practical applications of adaptive capacity are lacking. This research seeks to fill this gap through the creation of an adaptive capacity framework that is specific to market vendors in Vanuatu. This is important to understand as marketplaces are integral spaces for women in the Pacific that contribute to food security, provide economic opportunities, and contribute to sustainable livelihoods.
