Project title:

Species interactions in freshwater ecosystems in the context of changing disturbance regimes

Project description :

This project investigates food web dynamics in freshwater ecosystems. Specifically, it is a case study of the platypus, and the availability of its food resources. Platypuses consume a variety of freshwater invertebrates, including insect larvae, crustaceans and worms. This project aims to determine how instream diversity, abundance and biomass of these invertebrates affects platypus occurrence in south-east Queensland. In doing so, this research will inform future habitat restoration projects and conservation efforts targeted to the specific needs of the platypus.
