Project title:
Investigating the ecological impacts of bioplastic pollution in a sub-tropical marine ecosystem
Project description:
Plastic pollution is a growing threat to marine life, but the impacts of newer, ‘eco-friendly’ bioplastics remain unclear. Early evidence suggests bioplastics may be more readily ingested by marine invertebrates, with unknown consequences for their health and gut microbes. This project investigates how bioplastics affect culturally and ecologically significant species in Moreton Bay/Quandamooka. Using a multidisciplinary approach, this research will shed light on how different plastics impact marine biodiversity and inform strategies to manage pollution in coastal ecosystems.
