Theme: Earth science and resources

Description:

Seagrass meadows provide essential coastal protection related ecosystem services via bed stabilisation and wave dissipation. The Eastern Banks in Moreton Bay hold extensive seagrass meadows atop a significant volume of marine sediment that together shape the hydrodynamic regime of one of the main entrances to Moreton Bay. This project involves an assessment of the potential movement of this sediment and adjustments to geomorphology in the eastern portion of the bay via the use of wave, current, and wind informed numerical morphological models accompanied by observational data from within Moreton Bay.

Additional Information: The honors project will be conducted within the staff and students Marine Ecosystems Monitoring Lab that is focusing their research on coral reef and seagrass habitats using field and earth observation-based methods.
