Wave-current interactions across the Great Barrier Reef near Cairns
Theme: Marine biology and ocean science
Description:
The interaction between waves and tide or wind generated currents can be significant in regions with numerous, complex channels, such as in the Great Barrier Reef. The influence of ebb/flood tidal currents on wave propagation across the shelf is of interest for coastal protection and erosion management purposes. This project would involve a detailed assessment of the interaction between waves and currents across the Great Barrier Reef around the Cairns region, utilising both numerical hydrodynamic models and in situ data from wave measuring buoys in the region.
