Project title:

Exploring the impacts of both hearing and respiratory protection and its contribution towards stress

Project description:

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used by workers in a wide range of industries to minimise their risk of exposure to occupational hazards. However, PPE can also act as a stressor by affecting the wearer through various physical, physiological, psychological and cognitive impacts, and by impairing communication between individuals. The link between PPE and stress is poorly understood, and PPE used by non-healthcare workers even more so. This project aims to explore how both hearing and respiratory protection can impact the wearer and to get a deeper understanding of how these types of PPE can increase stress.
