Project title:
Apatite petrochronology and geochemistry as indicator in IOCG systems: Cloncurry District, Australia
Project description:
Iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) deposits in the Cloncurry district, Northwest Queensland, Australia, host complex mineralization processes influenced by regional metamorphism, magmatism, and hydrothermal activity. Apatite, a ubiquitous accessory mineral in these systems, records critical geochemical and chronological information that can unravel the timing, fluid evolution, and mineralization history of IOCG deposits. This study applies apatite petrochronology and geochemistry to key deposits—Ernest Henry, E1, and Eloise—to investigate fluid sources, metal transport mechanisms, and ore-forming conditions. By integrating microtextural analysis, U-Pb geochronology, and major and trace isotopic element chemistry, this research aims to enhance the understanding of apatite as a vector for mineralization and refine exploration models for IOCG systems.
