Poster printing service

Our poster printing service is open to all UQ staff, students and alumni. It is not a commercial service.

We aim to respond to your request within 24 hours Monday to Friday. Depending on the job queue, orders may be processed the same day where possible.

You must provide a PDF-formatted file. We don't accept other file types.

We print all posters on Studiojet Satin Cloth.

Hours of operation

Poster printing is available Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 4:30pm. Please note we will be closed on 21 November.

We aim to turn around orders in approx. 24 hours or sooner where possible, and will notify you if there is any delay beyond this time.

Sizes, costs and payments

We charge $70 per square metre, excluding GST.

Pages can be scaled up or down, proportionally, to fit the maximum print width of 1500mm.

Less than A2 (0.25m²) is not available.

How to pay

We don’t accept cash.

You must complete payment before we can process your order.

You can pay online or use a Request for Internal Services Quote (RISQ) form.

SENV based staff and SENV HDR students: please refer to the SENV Sharepoint Site for details relating to payment.

Do not use this for UQ business printing. Printing for UQ business purposes must be charged to a UQ chart string using the RISQ form below.

Fill in a RISQ form

You’ll need to download, save, fill in and then send us your form.

Note: you may experience difficulties with this form, so ensure you follow our instructions for desktop and mobile devices, below, before you start.

Instructions

Open our RISQ form (PDF, 1.8MB).
Save the form to your desktop or device.
Open the form in Acrobat Reader DC (desktop users), or a PDF-compatible viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader Mobile App (mobile users).
Fill in form’s dynamic fields, ensuring that you:
1. include the poster owner's name in the ‘purchasing business unit’ field
2. enter the desired poster size in the ‘description of goods or services purchased’ field
3. enter information into the fields for quantity, width and length one at a time - the form will automatically calculate your order’s price as you move through these three cells in the form. The form is set to A0 size by default
4. print out the form and ask both your school or unit's financial delegate and budget holder to sign it
5. email your scanned form, along with your poster file, to us at senv.posters@uq.edu.au.

How to send us your poster PDF

If your file is less than 18MB, email it to us at senv.posters@uq.edu.au.

We recommend you use your UQ student or staff account to send your file. Emails sent from private accounts might get blocked by UQ's spam filter.

Ensure your file is the full size that you require, or is ready to be scaled up, and not A4 or A3.

If your file is larger than 18MB, you may wish to include a link to the file using OneDrive. Should you wish to provide the file via an external drive or USB, please email us with details.

Always add your name and poster version number to the file name so we can easily identify it.

We’ll reply to your email to notify you that your order has been received and is being processed.

We’ll send you a second email when your poster is ready to collect - to avoid disappointment, wait until you receive this second email before you visit our office.

Cancellations

To cancel your poster print, you must phone us before your job is queued, or you’ll be charged for processing.

Don’t send a cancellation email as we can’t guarantee it will reach us before we have queued your job.

How to collect your printed poster

About Studiojet Satin Cloth

We print on Studiojet Satin Cloth to our HP Z6200 printer.

We use UV-resistant inks, so posters are waterproof and fade-resistant for two years outdoors, and five years indoors. We don’t laminate.

You can fold the fabric, ink-side in. To remove any noticeable creases, hang the poster or iron it with a warm iron on low setting, with a cloth between the poster and iron. You can also hem your poster with a sewing machine to prevent fraying if you leave a white border.

If you print your own A4 or A3 proof on your local laser or inkjet printer, the result won’t match that produced on our HP Z9. Fabric and ink/toner vary greatly. Typically, because of the highly absorbent white coating, images will appear slightly lighter in colour than they do on screen.
